What’s happening at this stage

Nine to eleven months is, structurally, one of the calmest stretches: two solid naps, longer wake windows, and nights that can genuinely hold together. Enjoy the predictability — and use it to make the two naps consistent in time and place.

The classic mistake here is misreading a rough patch (standing in the crib, separation protest, teething) as “ready for one nap”. Almost no baby is before 12 months. Hold the two-nap line; protect the second nap especially, since it’s the one that guards the evening.

Three things that help right now

  • Anchor the two naps to consistent times — bodies love predictability at this age.
  • If the second nap gets refused, offer a rest anyway and bring bedtime earlier that day.
  • Standing-in-the-crib phases pass fastest when practised out of the crib by day.
